Euthanasia Services for Pets

Providing compassionate care during a difficult time.

If your pet has been ill for a long time, they could be experiencing a poor quality of life. Though euthanizing your pet can be a difficult decision, our veterinary team can help support you in doing what’s best for your pet. We’ll provide a comprehensive review of their overall health and information about the procedure to help you make your decision.

What is my pet’s quality of life?

Quality of life describes your pet’s day-to-day life and their ability to live fully. Since you spend the most time with your pet, you have the best insights into the impact of their health issues, including out-of-character behaviour or sudden changes in their temperament. When a pet’s quality of life deteriorates, you'll notice they’re not quite like themselves. This could mean avoiding social interaction when they’re typically very friendly or growling when touched. Your pet’s pain could also manifest as a range of signs, including:

  • Difficulty eating or drinking independently
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Poor hygiene
  • Decreased mobility
  • Hiding

How do I know if euthanasia is the right option for my pet?

Assessing your pet’s quality of life is a good indicator of their well-being. If your pet has a poor quality of life, it typically means they have more bad days than good and are experiencing pain. Euthanasia can be right for your pet if you feel that allowing them to transition peacefully could mean an end to their pain and misery. Our veterinary team will provide any information you’ll need to help you make a decision you’re at peace with. If you have questions for our team, please contact us at 604-427-2744.

How will my pet be euthanized?

Euthanasia involves administering a dose of a sedative, followed by the life-ending medication in the vein or under the skin. Once injected with the seizure-inducing medication, your pet will peacefully transition in a matter of moments, stopping their brain and breathing. It’s a painless process, prioritizing your pet’s dignity.
