Orthopedic Services for Pets

Supporting the health of your pet’s joints, ligaments, and bones.

Orthopedic services support the health of your pet’s joints, ligaments, and bones. Untreated injuries or chronic conditions like arthritis can cause your pet pain and discomfort. Orthopedic treatments can provide pain management for your pet and improve their quality of life. In addition, we offer orthopedic surgeries courtesy of a visiting Board Certified Specialist. To book an appointment, please contact us at 604- 427-2744.

What are common orthopedic conditions?

Based on your pet’s age, breed, size, and overall health, they can be impacted by a range of orthopedic conditions. Your pet’s lifestyle, including their activity level and if they spend lots of time outdoors, can impact their joints and the types of conditions they are diagnosed with. Some common orthopedic conditions include:

  • Arthritis
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Elbow dysplasia
  • Cruciate ligament tears
  • Disc disease
  • Luxating patellas

How are these conditions treated?

Depending on your pet’s diagnosis, we’ll determine which treatment will support their healing and recovery. For example, since there isn't a cure for arthritis, we’ll determine which pain management strategies would be most effective. In some cases, we’ll recommend orthopedic surgeries to support inflamed joints or suggest rehabilitation treatments. Genetics predisposes some pets to health issues like hip dysplasia. Corrective surgery can help reduce pain as well as replace/remove hip joints.

Are orthopedic conditions preventable?

Genetics, lifestyle, or age could increase the likelihood of your pet being diagnosed with an orthopedic condition, but you can take steps to promote joint, ligament, and bone health. Examples include feeding your puppy/kittens a nutrient-rich diet for their development, ensuring your pet maintains a healthy weight and adequately tending to injuries like sprains or fractures.
