Parasite Control & Prevention

Protecting your pet against internal and external parasites.

Parasite infections can be painful and costly, especially when they can be prevented. We can recommend a parasite control plan that protects your pet against harmful internal and external parasites. Preventives are safe for your pet, only targeting and safeguarding against parasites. To discuss parasite control options for your pet, please contact us at 604-427-2744.

What is parasite control?

Parasite control includes steps you can take to protect your pet against parasite infections. Our veterinary team can prescribe medication that gives your pet broad-spectrum defense against internal and external parasites. Both types of parasites can cause harmful diseases, and in some cases, they can be fatal. External parasites target the parts of your pet’s body exposed to the elements, whereas internal parasites affect your pet’s internal systems and organs. Some parasites preventives can protect against include:

  • Roundworm
  • Hookworms
  • Whipworms
  • Tapeworms
  • Fleas and ticks
  • Ear mites
  • Heartworm

What is the risk of infection with preventives?

Preventives are most effective when taken as directed, which means you should follow our veterinary team’s instructions closely. For example, your pet should be given their preventives around the same time each month. Your pet’s risk of infection greatly increases if they miss a dosage of their preventive or don’t take it on time. In addition, it’s important to practice good hygiene, like washing your hands after you’ve handled your pet’s waste or touched them.
